Small Town, Big Tastes: Wineries

Posted by Dornhomes on Oct 15, 2017 11:00:00 PM

In our previous installments of Small Town, Big Tastes we’ve highlighted downtown Prescott dining and local microbreweries, and if you’ve read those you may have noticed a few recurring themes. For one thing, we don’t really use this space to talk about new home design or homebuilding in general. Instead, Small Town, Big Tastes is a place for us to celebrate businesses that share Dorn Homes’ values. Values like commitment to quality, dedication to craftsmanship, and contributing to the community. This is also a place for us to show you some of the things that make Prescott so unique, a small town with all the creature comforts of a big city.

It’s not just the lifestyle that’s unique here. The geography and elevation of Prescott, Sedona, and the Verde Valley make this part of northern Arizona an ideal region for growing grapes. This has led to the incredibly rapid growth of wineries in the region and we’re fortunate to have a few right on our doorstep. So please join us on a tasting tour of Prescott as we explore Prescott Winery, Granite Creek Vineyards, and Superstition Meadery.

Prescott Winery

Prescott Winery is located just a few blocks from historic Whiskey Row and features a selection of small-batch boutique wines. The winery’s tasting room first opened its doors two years ago and the names of the wines they feature celebrate the history of Arizona, including a white blend named “One Fifty,” a nod to Prescott’s 150th birthday.

The tasting room is open Wednesday to Friday from 2-8PM, Saturday from 1-8PM, and Sunday from 12-5PM. For more information, visit their website

Granite Creek VineyardsGranite Creek Vineyards

Granite Creek Vineyards is a family owned and operated vineyard and winery just north of Prescott in the Town of Chino Valley. The vineyard was the first farm in Arizona to be Certified Organic and remains one of only a handful of wineries in the United States that makes Certified Organic wines without added sulfites.

The tasting room is open Thursday through Sunday from 12PM to 5PM and offers a light wine-friendly menu from Block Six Catering. Granite Creek Vineyards also offers a Sunday Champagne Brunch from 10AM to 2PM and live music on Saturdays. For a full listing of their upcoming events visit their website and explore their event page.

Superstition MeaderySuperstition Meadery

Superstition Meadery, located in downtown Prescott, has produced over 150 different meads and hard ciders since 2012. Unlike our other entries, Superstition Meadery doesn’t produce a grape wine, rather, they produce a variety of honey wines. As you may have surmised from the number of releases, the list of meads is constantly changing. For those of you that have not tried mead, Superstition Meadery offers a flight of 12 different and innovative meads to sample. The meadery also serves tapas, a desert plate, and a limited kids menu.

The tasting room is open Mondays to Thursday from 11AM to 8PM, Fridays and Saturdays 11AM to 10PM, and Sundays 11AM to 5PM. Superstition Meadery also features regular live music and Happy Hour specials from 4-6PM Monday through Friday. For more information about upcoming events and to see their menu of meads, visit their website. For access to one-off test batches, special releases, and other unobtainable products on their Cellar List, visit their tasting room on Courthouse Square.

Crafting wine and mead is a process that demands attention to detail, a focus on obtaining only the best ingredients, and patience. Dorn Homes toasts each of these vintners for their dedication to the craft. For more information about these companies explore their websites above.
